The Range Experience – FAQ

If staff detect the presence of cannabis or alcohol upon your arrival, you will not be permitted to proceed with your booking. You will not be eligible for a refund or rebooking.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARRIVE

1. Check in:

  • Arrive at The Range and check in with one of our friendly staff members.

2. Upgrade your experience:

  • Add a T-shirt to shoot in, purchase additional ammunition, or choose from other available upgrades.

3. Complete your waiver and ID check.

  • One of our staff members will assist you with completing your waiver form and checking your photo ID.

4. Relax while we get everything ready.

  • While your Range Officer loads your magazines and prepares for your experience, feel free to explore our 3,000 sq. ft. retail store or relax in our Lounge Area while watching the action on The Range.

5. Meet your Range Officer.

  • Your Range Officer will find your party and go over some important safety points with you before you enter The Range. They will then provide you with hearing and eye protection.

6. Now you're ready to shoot!

  • Have fun, follow your Range Officer's instructions, and stay safe!

Do I need a License or Membership?

  • No! You do not need a firearms license (PAL) or a membership to purchase a range package.
  • Our membership is intended for licensed individuals who wish to use The Range as their club facility.

Do I need to book in advance?

  • Yes! All shooting experiences must be booked in advance. Book your experience online at utrange.ca.
  • Online bookings are available Tuesday–Saturday.

Can I walk in and shoot a package without an appointment?

  • Appointments are strongly recommended to ensure your lane is reserved and you have the best possible experience. While we typically require appointments, walk-ins may be accommodated when availability allows. If you’re planning to visit without an appointment, we recommend calling ahead to check availability.

Can my kids shoot too?

  • Yes! We welcome shooters from 12 to 112! 😄
  • Shooters between the ages of 12–18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Proof of guardianship is required.

Can I come to the Range alone?

  • No. For safety reasons, all shooting experiences require a minimum of two participants. Single-shooter bookings are not permitted. Grab a friend, family member, or fellow shooter and come enjoy the experience together!

Can I share or split a shooting package?

  • Most of our shooting packages are designed for one person and cannot be split or shared. However, we have two packages that are specifically designed to be shared between two people: Couples Therapy and Dos Loko.
  • All other packages are intended for use by one person and cannot be shared.

What should I bring?

  • The most important thing to bring is your government-issued photo ID. This is mandatory and required to complete your waiver and paperwork before your shooting experience.
  • That’s it — we’ll provide the firearms, ammunition, hearing protection, and eye protection needed for your experience.

What should I wear when visiting the Range?

  • For your safety and comfort, we recommend wearing clothing that provides good coverage, such as a T-shirt, hoodie, or long-sleeve shirt, along with pants or shorts and closed-toe shoes. Open-toed shoes are not permitted on The Range.
  • This attire helps minimize the chance of warm brass coming into contact with exposed skin during your shooting experience.
  • Recommended: T-shirt, hoodie or long-sleeve shirt, pants or shorts, and closed-toe shoes.

Do I need my own guns?

  • No! You do not need to bring your own firearms. We offer a variety of shooting packages that include firearm use, ammunition, and instruction from one of our knowledgeable Range Officers.

Do I need to bring my own hearing and eye protection when I visit the Range?

  • If you are purchasing one of our shooting packages, we provide everything you need, including hearing and eye protection, at no additional charge.
  • If you are bringing and shooting your own firearm, you are responsible for bringing your own approved hearing and eye protection, whether you are a member or a non-member.

Are the guns and ammunition at The Range real?

  • Yes! The firearms and ammunition used at The Range are real. Our experiences use real firearms and live ammunition under the direct supervision of our Range Officers.
  • Real guns. Real bullets. Real fun.

Will there be someone there to assist me if I’m an inexperienced shooter?

  • Absolutely! Our knowledgeable Range Officers will be with you throughout your shooting experience. For your safety, you will never enter The Range, handle a firearm, or begin shooting without a Range Officer present to provide instruction, supervision, and guidance.

Can I load the guns in my package?

  • No. For everyone’s safety, all firearms will be loaded and prepared by your Range Officer. Your Range Officer will handle the loading and ensure each firearm is safely prepared before you begin shooting.

Can I buy more ammunition to add to a package?

  • Yes! If you’re having a great time and want to keep shooting, additional ammunition may be available for purchase during your experience, depending on the time available. Ask your Range Officer about adding ammunition for the firearms you enjoyed the most!

Can I take pictures and video while at The Range?

Can I shoot fully automatic firearms at The Range?

  • No. Fully automatic firearms are not permitted at The Range. Under Canadian law, automatic firearms are classified as prohibited firearms.
  • For this reason, fully automatic firearms cannot be used as part of our shooting experiences.

What is the largest calibre I can shoot at The Range?

  • Our backstop is rated for calibres up to .50 BMG. There is no maximum calibre restriction below this rating, provided the firearm and ammunition meet our range requirements.
  • Shotgun ammunition is the exception: birdshot is not permitted.

Can I bring my own firearms to The Range as a non-member?

  • Yes! Non-members are welcome to bring and shoot their own firearms at The Range.

  • An appointment is required. You can book your lane online at utrange.ca.

Can I still shoot handguns even though there is a federal handgun freeze?

  • Yes! The federal handgun freeze restricts the sale, purchase, transfer, and importation of handguns in Canada. It does not prevent lawfully available handguns from being used at approved shooting ranges.
  • At The Range, you can still enjoy our available handgun experiences under the direct supervision of a Range Officer.

How many shooting lanes does The Range have?

  • The Range features seven shooting lanes in our main range, allowing us to accommodate both small groups and larger bookings while providing a comfortable and enjoyable shooting experience.

Please note: Range package participants must have a minimum of two people per booking and cannot shoot as a single. Lane rentals may be booked for one person with a valid PAL.

Cancellation Policy

  • All changes or cancellations to your range booking must be made at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time.
  • Changes or cancellations made within 24 hours of your scheduled time may result in the payment being withheld, a refund being denied, or the requested change being unavailable.
